@thebiocosmos: This cell is really large, though it is unlikely to be a senescent cell (look back at my previous video to find out what a senescent cell is). This cell is under a lot of tension as you can tell by the formation of those stress fibres (straight crisscross lines). It's likely because the cell is being stretched on the substrate. This can happen when the adhesion of the substrate is too strong and the cell can't relaxed. Think of it like if you stretch your body out as much as possible and then someone glue you to the floor with superglue! Studying how the cell interacts with the substrate or as we like to call it, the matrix, is incredibly important. A case example is how stem cells differentiate. We learn that just by changing the composition of the matrix or the physical properties of the matrix (make it softer or stiffer), you can change how stem cells differentiate and what they differentiate into. So think of the important application in tissue engineering! Another example is in cancer biology. It turns out that the tumour is stiffer than its surrounding because a type of cell called fibroblasts deposit a lot of matrix molecules around it. This stiffer environment made cancer cells more migratory, aka more likely to spread. So research in this has implication in understanding how cancer evolves and behave in the body, helping us to detect and treat cancer better! #cell #biology #microscopy #research #Science #cancer #thebiocosmos #fyp #trending #tiktok #art

magnification? are those stress fibers part of the ECM or cytoskeleton?
