You know who cares less about your family? Your civilian employer. The line was always “You joined the Army, they didn’t join you” but I’d do what I could, and I bring that approach to my civvy job now….but changing jobs doesn’t fix it.

Outside of training events a lot of units could get away with 3-4 day work weeks when not deployed which would allow for a lot more family time oh and those work days should end at like 1500

I found the family programs and networks in the military to be infinitely better than in federal service or even my current LEO job.

oh 1980s-1990's family first thing that single soldiers looked at as forgetting them... the military has to balance everyone... the only time it is military first is combat/war then all bets are off

I got out after 6, in 2006, with a date for E6, simply because my family wasn't supported. I wasn't able to maintain relationships when my home support system had no support.

Honestly, in the 13 years I served I learned so many things for the families but they aren't advertised. My last enlistment I did lots of extracurricular stuff. I miss those benefits.

Spouse here, I actually was impressed with how much the military takes care of the family, but it does require the spouse to go out and look for the help. I also was older when I married my navy spouse so I am sure that helped prepare me. Many spouses do seem to be very young

Nothing will change until we revamp the promotion system. Any idiot can cheat JKO or swindle S1 so we end up with a ton of incompetent leaders that can’t handle the basics. Make it competitive and merit based, not points.

I had a year left on my contract, coming up to pcs, tried to stay where I was because my wife was pregnant.
my csm denied my paperwork to stay and made my 8 month pregnant wife fly with me to my next DS.
that day he denied my paperwork was the day I decided I was done with the army.
