I go dark as possible so it doesn’t matter if it’s dirty or not and honestly if your just starting out your probably going to be in a fab shop that’s close to your house. There’s oil they put on metal to prevent rusting. It’ll piss you Tf off when you have to get a stick down and your gloves feel like dawn dish soap. I recommend black everything from jacket, shirts, pants, unless you don’t care about it. I get it it’s your “ work clothes “ but you will get a orange stain from the what I can only assume is the metal shavings from grinding I guess they get on your sweaty shirt and rust and turn it orange. And to be honest fuck a welding cap go get an old hat and turn it backwards it works just as good and gives your neck extra protection. You can also turn it forward and put your Hood on your head and the hat bill will stop it from covering your face as you walk around.
