it seems to me that those who fight so hard for the existence of hell do so because they need it. they need the fear to "be good", or to live "Christlike". However, that very need for fear exposes a lack of relationship, and therefore faith. Followers of Christ do so not out of fear of hell, but out of love. Anything else is a distraction.

So many people ran to religion (not Jesus) in fear of hell. If you take hell away, they have nothing to be saved from because they never truly believed in their own arrogance and depravity as evidenced by their lack of love and compassion for others despite their professions of faith.

It is always easier to create followers from fear than love. People will die on the hill of purposefully misunderstanding instead of just opening their hearts to love as Jesus calls, and it’s incredibly sad.

The Bible does tell us of the lake of fire but for me I think hell will be cold, and dark. God is light and warmth and hell is complete absence of God. Being completely removed from Him and His light well be the greatest torture.

Those that have actually read the Bible know the truth. Culture has done a great job at deceiving people. I used to be one of those people. All I knew was what culture taught me. Praise Jesus for saving me and showing me the truth.

We get so hung up on what hell is or isn’t (Fire and brimstone, eternal torture from demons, a lake of lava, and on and on…). The Word is clear judgement for choosing to separate from God and deny Him is separation from God. This, by itself is hell enough. He is our very life, both physically and spiritually. If we separate from God, then our very life is gone and we are eternally dead. Whatever it is should not be the thing that drives us to desire for salvation. It should be simply that the most beautiful entity in existence loved me so much and desires so much to have relationship with me, that He took the time to not only create me, but also empty Himself and take the punishment I deserve. I love Jesus, because He first loved me. Not because I am afraid of whatever hell is.

I don't believe in the devil torturing people in hell....or Dantes inferno type description of hell. But I have to ask what you believe that happens to those who don't receive salvation or even those who do not hear of Jesus?
