@greenwoodwildlife: Golden-mantle Ground Squirrel gets second chance This week’s #PatientoftheWeek is a tiny Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel. He was found in a 6 foot deep pole hole by construction workers in Nederland. They pulled the little squirrel out of the hole, but he was in shock and it appeared hopeless. They provided supportive care while calling around for help. Fortunately, they found Greenwood and brought the little critter in. By the time they arrived, the young ground squirrel was in critical condition. Our Animal Care Team provided warmth, fluid therapy, anti-inflammatories, and further supportive care. Once stabilized, a thorough exam found no serious illness or injury, and he was given some time to rest in a warm, dark, quiet enclosure. Although we never recommend that untrained rescuers attempt to provide medical care to wildlife, the quick thinking of these men may have saved this little ground squirrel’s life! He has made a full recovery and was recently released back to his natural home. #GreenwoodWildlife #GoldenMantleGroundSquirrel
