@bee.jeweled.coop: She sure told me off with that tail wag at the end 😂🐓 A coop designed with nesting boxes that can be shut off from the main coop is a must-have feature when it comes to broody breaking hens. Here’s my gentle routine that actually works: Morning: Our broody girl goes into “broody jail” – aka a dog crate in the run. (Always make sure she has food and water!) Afternoon: After all the ladies have finished laying, I hang this cover over the nesting boxes to block access. Then I release our broody hen to free range for the rest of the day. ✨Set a reminder to take the cover off in the morning so everyone can lay their eggs! Repeat: The next day we start all over – cover down, broody hen in jail while ladies lay, cover back up in the afternoon, and broody hen gets her freedom. Within just a few days, she snaps out of her broody phase and life goes back to normal! This method is so much gentler than other broody-breaking techniques, and having a coop designed with this feature makes the whole process less stressful for everyone involved. #backyardchickens #chickenkeeper #broodyhen #chickenkeeping #chickencoop #beejeweledcoop #petchickens #diychickencoop
