@curtdubya: Follow @Maria LaMagna Morales for tech terminology and more! "Grok" comes from one of my favorite books: "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert A. Heinlein. Have you read it? In the book, "grok" is a Martian word that literally means "to drink." However, it is used to mean many other things as well, such as to understand, to love, to hate, to fear, and to be a part of something so integrally that you cannot detach it from your own identity. Although the tech world has used "grok" to mean deep, intuitive understanding, it unfortunately has lost some of the communal and transcendental aspects of the word as Heinlein originally described it in the book. To truly grok something is to undergo a fundamental change in yourself, and to grok a person means to understand them on every level in which it's possible to know someone.
