This is both truth and error. The spiritual realm you carry within determines the atmosphere you walk in. When the lights in your home are turned off, the natural darkness often mirrors the condition of your spirit. If your soul is filled with darkness, then yes—darkness will cling to you. But if you are filled with the Spirit and the Word of God, then even in complete physical darkness, your inner light shines brighter than the sun.
Jesus said, ‘You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden’ (Matthew 5:14). Light is not just physical—it is spiritual. Scripture also says, ‘The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord’ (Proverbs 20:27). In the unseen realm, every believer who is filled with Christ burns as a radiant flame. Demons do not fear your house lamp, they fear the fire of God burning within you.
This is why turning off the lights to pray can actually help you focus—not because darkness empowers demons, but because physical stillness allows you to quiet distractions and concentrate on God. What determines the outcome is not the absence of physical light, but the presence of spiritual light within you.
To say that turning off the lights automatically attracts demons is only partly true. The real question is: what condition is your soul in? Are you carrying bitterness, lust, fear, or unbelief? Then yes, darkness is drawn to that void. But if your heart is filled with the Word, with worship, and with the Spirit of Christ, then even in the darkest night, your spirit illuminates the unseen like a blazing torch.
Darkness itself is neutral—what matters is whether you are the dwelling place of Light or the dwelling place of shadows. If Christ lives in you, then even the deepest night cannot overcome you. ‘The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it’ (John 1:5)
