I rather see kids running or doing exercises as punishment then being spanked or yelled at.

We had a preschooler with really bad ADHD. When he would get overstimulated, we'd have him run a lap or 2 and it would calm him down and he would be so much more focused. He actually enjoyed it and it helped his mental health. We were teaching him a healthy way of dealing with overstimulation.

It sounds like they need support with learning how to communicate and regulate their emotions. I’m curious as to how running is going help with that.

With boys I’ve heard giving them physical activities as punishment like running is really good for them to learn discipline

Does the youngest talk like that because that’s how the deaf brother talks?

Just curious, are you at all worried about how this might affect them long-term? Exercise is supposed to feel good, release endorphins, and help us mentally and physically, but if it’s tied to punishment, won’t they start associating it with something negative?

I can’t wait for the Karen’s on this one. My dad used to make my brother flip a tractor tire up the hill. For discipline. But also he was getting some conditioning in for football.😅

Sometimes those big/loud emotions are because they have too much energy for their little bodies, so it might work 🤣

We also do wall-sits and planks. It’s a great discipline.

mine do laps around the house.
it's nice because when they are done they've forgotten about what they were arguing about etc. they've been breathing, they're calm, and ready to reset

Honestly it’s a great idea, I’m an educator and we use that technique in kindergarten sometimes. I may keep it in my back pocket for when I have kids one day

My friend’s dad did that. Said if the kids were going to be disrespectful they’d at least be fit too.
