August 26, 2025 I was fired from Leanne’s Local Pedal Shop. That day, I was told by the owner Briana to clock out, hand over the keys to the company vehicle, and leave. But as I was trying to do just that, I was met with hostility—yelled at, questioned, and humiliated in front of others. One coworker demanded, “Why do you keep doing this? You’ve already clocked out,” while I was still mid-process, simply trying to leave quietly. As I walked out—without shouting, without knocking anything over—I heard things that have stayed with me. I watched as the owner told others to “hide your purses” and “lock your cars,” painting me as some kind of threat. As if I were dangerous. As if I was less than. That moment wasn’t just about being fired. It was about how I was treated—with suspicion, fear, and a lack of basic human respect. It was rooted in something deeper. Something uglier. I’ll call it what it was: racism. I’m sharing this now because my story matters. Because how we’re treated in these moments says everything. I will never stand for racism—not then, not now.
