@hoodiehistory: How the Treaty of Versailles Guaranteed World War II On June 28th, 1919, the Allied powers signed the Treaty of Versailles, a document intended to finally end the First World War. Instead, it created a "peace" so harsh and humiliating that it all but guaranteed a second, even deadlier conflict. Signed in the Hall of Mirrors, the treaty imposed devastating terms on Germany. Led by the "Big Four"—Wilson, Lloyd George, Clemenceau, and Orlando—the victors stripped Germany of territory, dismantled its military, and demanded crippling reparations payments. Most damaging of all was Article 231, the infamous "War Guilt Clause," which forced Germany to accept sole blame for the war, fueling deep and lasting resentment. In this video, I explore how the flawed peace process and the quest for revenge at Versailles set the stage for the rise of Adolf Hitler and the outbreak of World War II. Was the Treaty of Versailles fair, or was it a disastrous act of vengeance? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
