Weird that it’s been adopted as gentrifier by the city and is actively planted. It’s the namesake of the book from the 30s “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn” and in the book is a signature of poor immigrant neighborhoods.

That’s Japanese Pagoda/Chinese Scholar Tree (styphnolobium japonica), they’re not technically invasive but are non-native. Definitely a good question to why they’re still on the approved tree list (but they aren’t related to Tree of Heaven ailanthus altissima)

OMG, we have a giant one of these right in front of my apartment building on 10th. The entire back of our pick up is filled with these flowers.
