Y'all had me thinking I'd be watching a romcom. I am NOT okay😭😭

My Oxford Year leans heavily into an overused trope and unfortunately, it brings nothing new to the table. The storyline is predictable to the point where I could see the ending coming from a mile away. Instead of building real emotional weight, the plot rushes through key moments, leaving little time to develop the characters in a meaningful way. Worse still, the chemistry between the leads was almost nonexistent. For a film that hinges so much on a transformative romance, there's just no spark to make the audience believe in the connection. It all feels forced and formulaic. Netflix, you're generating a serious amount of income with your original content. Some of that budget should be going toward more thoughtful scripts and better execution. Either raise the bar or maybe leave projects like this to studios willing to put in the work.
