My CAC score is 317. My exercise stress test was inconclusive so I next did a nuclear stress test and did very well on that. My cardiologist put me on a statin and I was having muscle aches. He switched me to Praluent. I’m not having any problems with that. At its highest, my LDL was 239. With weight loss I dropped that to 146. After I took my calcium score and was put on the Praluent, my LDL dropped to 63. I can’t seem to get it under 50. But it’s so much lower than it was that I’m pretty happy. And it was very strange, all the years that my LDL kept climbing, my primary care physician, barely discussed putting me on a statin. I think it was because I had a corresponding very high HDL but now it seems odd. Oh well.

I’ve had 3 calcium scores taken over more than a decade. All were 0. Yet I have high cholesterol (230ish). Sounds like a statin won’t help against a MACE?

Why aren’t more women being studied? We (healthcare) know women present so differently than men. And knowing in 2025 women responses to medication differ from men. Just asking because we know that women respond differently than men on so many conditions especially when it comes to cardiac issues I just wanna understand the logic behind medical studies, focused still on men and not men compared to women compare compared to placebo if that makes sense thank you sir

Here’s my conundrum: I’m a 59yo woman, my dad had a massive heart attack and quadruple bypass surgery at 60. My CAC score was zero as of June this year, cholesterol is 317(!) but HDL is 144 and LDL is 157. My 75 year old GP says “take a statin”. My “side-hustle” hormone doctor says, “keep doing what you’re doing and let’s test every 6 months”. (If it matters, I’ve been a fitness instructor for 25 years) Thoughts?

400 CAC w/out statin. Started atorvastetin brought LDL down to low 60s from 100+ many years w/out med. Side effects so moved to rosuvastatin & only took every other day per doctor to adddress side effects from statins. Labs after 6 months brought LDL into 40s with only Rosuv every other day. Dosage for both same.
