Yes, I have a 48-hour cancellation policy. Yes, it says I can charge you. No, I never enforce it, and I stopped keeping cards on file for my regular clients. Here’s why. Every time I charged someone, I never saw them again. They got pissed, they left, and I lost the fee and the client. So the policy is there, but this is how I actually handle it. You get one pass. Life happens. The second time, you get a look. The third time, you’re done. Three strikes and I’m not rebooking you. That means calling me the day of, rescheduling inside my 48 hours, or just not showing up. What am I supposed to do with a 48-hour opening? Nothing. That chair sits empty and that’s money I don’t get back. If you’re sick, I don’t want you in my chair, and I’m not going to charge you for being sick. But if you’re sick every other appointment, I’m not taking you anymore. I’m an independent stylist. I don’t have a front desk shuffling people around or a waitlist of clients ready to jump in. I don’t have the flexibility to keep absorbing it. If your schedule needs that kind of flexibility, a full-service salon might be a better fit for you, and that’s okay. Stylists, do you actually enforce your cancellation policy, or is it just there as a threat like mine? . If you would like to book an appointment, yes all new clients are required to put a credit card down on file! My salon Rockit Studio is located in Schaumburg Illinois, 40 minutes outside of Chicago.
