@cloocloodank_2: Fuckkk I have so much I wanna say about this one, but obviously the blabberfest I’m about to go on has pretty big spoilers, and this is a pretty short anime so I would recommend just sitting down for two and a half hours and watching this amazing thing in its entirety. Marina and Naoki are such perfect red herrings, Marina is played up as a generic but especially cruel bully, but not for reasons she or Shizuka can control, she’s simply staying on her mother’s side by removing the “parasite” that is ruining her parents. Of course it’s a childish grudge to hold but she wholeheartedly believes that Shizuka’s absense will change something. Naoki’s constant desire for approval had him chasing Shizuka around, and led him to do absolutely insane things as a result. Despite how deplorable their actions are, it’s all a result of lackluster parenting deep down. It led Marina’s irrational hatred, Shizuka’s cold shoulder towards basically everything, and Naoki’s obsessive hunt for approval. Despite all that though, they aren’t monsters, they are children who were failed by the adults in their lives. I think the message that nobody is truly alone is beautifuly portrayed. For Naoki, it was his older brother who was there for him in the end. For Marina and Shizuka, they gained each other, even if they lost Takopi. Takopi themself is an extremely interesting character, despite their extremely limited knowledge of earth they still develop feelings of guilt for their actions, and in the end they decide they want what is best for everyone, even at their own expense, and that none of them should be alone even if it makes another happy.
