It's because they didn't really go to the moon. So they set up this gaslighting situation where they figured, if people were gonna wonder they were going to give them a story. So they started spreading rumors that there was something on the moon, and that you didn't want to go back there. bypassing the fact that we never went to the moon but solidifying the fact that we went there. But there's something that is way too sinister and not to go back there instead.
