High intelligence without high confidence often feels crippling. People trust nonsense spoken confidently more than truth... And many people don't actually want the truth or the answer.

ive made a habit of letting people make whatever wrong conclusion they want because correcting them would involve changing their whole thinking structure and i aint gon do allat

I tried to use the Socratic method to get them there or else they won’t buy into it. I try to come across as inquisitive, not smarter or judging.

yup, usually under 30 seconds I have a demonstratable solution, even if i never thought of the particular subject. Basic principles apply to EVERYTHING so one can overlay KNOWN on the UNKNOWN and come to a quick answer. It bugs me when I know more than someone in THEIR profession.

Doing my master, my colleague's project was about turtle production because people along Amazon river eat turtles. I told him that is not a turtle production problem, instead a social problem. People eat turtles because they need protein. Later, his project was scraped and his advisor now hates me

It’s also common for “experts” or “the majority” to only consider solutions that do not jeopardize their livelihoods. As perpetual outsiders, we aren’t limited in that way.

been there. worked in a nuclear support facility with a bunch a Navy trained Nuclear Technicians. I myself am not a nuclear Technician but many times I pointed out the solution to a problem. to me it seemed quite obvious but they would literally have a meeting to debrief the situation to understand how I came to the solution. granted, some of them were incredibly smart. so smart they could tell you the molecular structure of a filing cabinet but not what it is used for.

This is spot on. I often assume there’s something I’m missing precisely because it seems so obvious. Even when people start explaining, I instinctively look for deeper meaning and try to connect it to something beyond the surface.
