it doesn't actually say that in the Bible all it says is that a centurion was in charge of the group of soldiers who crucified Jesus. Mark's gospel mentions that this centurion was amazed by Jesus's death. He said, "Surely this man was the Son of God!" This is the first time a Gentile person in the Bible recognizes Jesus's true identity. The Bible doesn't mention the centurion having bad eyesight, but it does say he was amazed by what he saw at the crucifixion. The idea that he might have had a vision problem comes from later legends, not the Bible itself.

All Roman soldiers had to be in perfect health including eye sight. Can you imagine a centurion almost blind, leading his 100 soldiers who knows where and fighting without being sure who is the enemy and who are his soldiers?
