@tranquilitybyhehe: Most people don’t know this about me… • • • But I was a lifeguard for nearly a decade. • 🛟Red bathing suit, whistle, rescue tube—the whole nine. • And even now, as a my career has shifted to doula and educator, that training still lives in my body every single summer. • Because there’s one thing I’ll never forget: • Drowning is fast. And silent. • It doesn’t always look like thrashing. It doesn’t always sound like screaming. • It’s a head bobbing under once… and not coming back up. • And it doesn’t take a pool. • It can be a bucket. A toilet. A bathtub. • Just 2 inches of water and 30 seconds. That’s all it takes. • So if you’re raising little ones, here’s what you need to know: 🚨 Drowning is the NUMBER ONE cause of accidental death in children ages 1–4. 🏊♀️ Swim lessons reduce the risk of drowning by 88% (CDC). 🚧 Four-sided fencing around any pool matters. So do self-latching gates. 📱 Put your phone down near water. No text is worth it. • This post isn’t here to scare you—it’s here to say: You have the power to prevent a tragedy. • Teach them to swim. Stay eyes-on. Lock the gate. Ditch the floaties that create a false sense of safety. Learn CPR. Talk to other caregivers and babysitters. • And if this gave you a lump in your throat or a pit in your stomach? Good. Let that be the reminder that water safety isn’t optional. It’s essential. • • • Listen to today’s episode with Water Safety Instructor Tyler Bradshaw from @Aqua-Tots Swim Schools Norwood where we dive into exactly what you need to know about water safety this summer by searching The Birth Lounge Podcast! • • • #watersafety #watersafetyawareness #lifeguard #poolsafety #drowningprevention
I saw this color chart once and now my baby only has neon orange and yellow. And can testify as also a previous lifeguard, even in perfectly clear clean water, in a busy pool anything more than a few feet it’s hard to see darker colors underwater!!
