I understand the logic behind job interviews, but in 2025 hiring managers and HR need to stop turning them into a game. My own Director has already made three bad hires, all smooth talkers who nail interviews but turned out to be useless and lazy. Every single one of them had military backgrounds, great communication skills, and yet all three were fired. Please stop hiring for talk instead of results.

Just interviewed and accepted assistant store manager. For the store manager I asked him what would I need to do in order for 6 months down the road for him to look and say she is excelling at this role. For District manager I asked her how she navigates being a woman in a male dominated role and being respected for what she brings to the table vs gender stigma. Both were set back by the questions and really had to think and I think this is the trick to stand out.
