@samlowcooks: Ep 78 | Sesame Seeds – HOW TO SHOP AT YOUR LOCAL ASIAN GROCER Sesame seeds (from the Sesamum indicum plant) have been treasured in Chinese gastronomy for centuries. White sesame seeds are often toasted and sprinkled as garnish, or ground into rich sesame paste especially in Central Chinese cuisine. Black sesame seeds often are found in desserts, sweet soups, and boba drinks etc. When pressed, both yield fragrant sesame oil, a pantry staple. Their distinctive nutty aroma comes from powerful aromatic compounds like sesamol and sesamine, which also boast antioxidant benefits. Tiny seeds, huge culinary impact! Tip: store opened sesame oil and pastes in the fridge to slow done its oxidation keeping them more aromatic for longer. I made banana bread with a black sesame paste ribbon swirled in & the flavours go *so* well together. Black sesame is a top tier dessert flavour.

I am a firm believer that there is no such thing as too much sesame oil in a dish, I use it in literally everything 😍 I also have mixed sesame seeds, sesame dressing, and sesame paste always at the ready for my dishes
