The operation by the task force team, led by the OCDA General Manager Honourable Frank Nkem Nzewodo and Special Adviser to the Governor OCDA Prince Amanze Njemanze is part of a broader mandate to recover government-owned properties and uphold the sanctity of the Owerri City Master Plan. The affected property — a government-designated oil development site — was officially handed over to the state by community leaders years ago following the discovery of oil in the area. Compensation and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) had been duly executed, affirming the government’s ownership. Despite this, some individuals, through negligence or fraudulent misguidance, encroached on the land, erecting illegal hostels, shops, shanties, and other structures without due approval from relevant authorities.
