In Southern Africa maize meal is the most commonly consumed starched and is known by different names: Pap- South Africa 🇿🇦 & Botswana 🇧🇼 Nshima- Zambia 🇿🇲 Sadza- Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 In true diet history fashion, these carbs are demonised when it comes to weight loss and many of the population believe that these swallows need to be eliminated in order to lose weight ❌WRONG❌ What needs to happen for weight loss is PORTION CONTROL. 1️⃣ A single “serving” of maize meal is 1/4 cup (once cooked) We typically recommend 2-4 servings of carbohydrates per meal 👍 Therefore this image represents what your lump size could look like, depending on how many servings you need 😉 The number of servings varies from person to person (depending on age, activity levels & other factors)😁 When it comes to weight loss, aim to reduce you portions by 1 serving to achieve a calorie deficit 👏 SIDE NOTE: I remember taking these photos with Mike my house worker in Zambia, I learnt so much about Zambian foods from him and was constantly asking him questions.
