Everyday there’s a new batch of dogs who have been so badly abused it truly does make me lose so much faith in humanity. I don’t want to be a negative person too much when it comes to rescue because I know there’s an entire community here doing amazing things and saving lives. But when I see so many hairless, emaciated, injured dogs it makes me realize this abuse is going on nonstop, all around us. I know so many are so confused on why there’s a Euth list everyday at the shelter but everyone in Texas is drowning. This is not a dog issue, this is a people issue. We literally can’t keep up with backyard breeders and dog fighters and irresponsible owners. We can’t adopt our way out of this problem. I know no one wants to be the crazy animal person but we HAVE to start holding those around us responsible. Everyone makes mistakes. Maybe you went to a breeder the first time around, maybe you got a dog that just didn’t fit your lifestyle, there are so many different scenarios where we as humans fail these dogs unintentionally but we have got to push for better. Dogs don’t have the voice we do, so we need to be the ones to encourage our friends and families to adopt, to take our dogs to the vet regularly, to be mindful that they are living beings too.
