I always saw the crucifixion of Jesus as a metaphor of the individual having to crucify their ego so that they can abandon the old ways and adapt to whats better for them. We must die to be born again otherwise life becomes meaningless

I left the church officially 5 years ago. I practice witchcraft now and I’m also coming to terms with my self-diagnosis of OSDD-1b. But before I left the church, I had this urging to leave the church because I felt like I didn’t belong. One of my alters is wanting to go through the Bible and study it with more progressive Bible studies.

I've been thinking of revisiting the Bible stories as just that; stories meant to teach a lesson, rather than a literal history. It feels more likely to be accurate. When I think of it, the picture that comes to my mind is an ancient traveler sitting down at the fireside sharing stories, perhaps with the young. When you pair this with the understanding that similar legends existed in other ancient societies in surrounding areas you really start to wonder if someone like Abraham was an actual person, or just a person in a story that was passed along. I believe it is both. Ex: There was an Abraham, and he did possibly have a calling from God. He learned lessons, promised God things and was promised things in return. As we all do. But his story resonated with a wide range of people across cultures and was likely passed on because of it. Or because it taught particularly important and relevant lessons for people at that time. Or because God wanted it to. Or all of the above, who knows? 🙂
