The simplest answer is that air conditioners don’t actually make air cold, they just remove the heat from one space and move it somewhere else (like outside of your house). It’s two fans (one “indoor” and one “outdoor”) and all the refrigerant does act as an agent to absorb heat from one place and then move it somewhere else.

The only thing incorrect here is that Freon is not the refrigerant, that's simply a brand of a manufacturer that makes refrigerant. the must finally used refrigerant currently in the US is 410A in housing. now we are transitioning to R32. and if you have a really old unit, it will be r22
