if this is a kill shelter I would be careful with how you go about it. I wouldn’t put it past them to put it down out of spite. But I do think something needs to be done, what they are doing is unethical and just plain wrong.

Okay so lets think about is he a homeless vet? Just bc he is homeless does NOT mean he doesnt deserve a companion. I lived in a heavy homeless city in WA and the dogs we’re cared for by their owners. Food, treats, ect. BLAST. THAT. SHELTER.

Give the gentleman the resources to publicize it himself. Perhaps he needs a ride to the library, shown how to use social media etc

This should be referred to your local media outlets and the mayor’s communications office. They are doing this strictly out of spite. That is the only thing that will make the difference. If you need a 3rd party making the connections so you aren’t the bad guy let me know. I love being the advocate for people in these situations.

I would call a news station. They are not going to know who called them. It could be anyone that contact them They will not for sure know who called the news station. He deserves to have his dog. The dog's been taken away from it's original owner alone is traumatizing to a dog but having them put into another home is going to make the dog more traumatized. It's totally wrong what they are doing morally and emotionally for all. I am praying for the man to get his dog back. 🙏💜😊

nope. nope. nope. gimme the name of the shelter. I'm in NC. and my car would definitely not make it there, but I can dobsome digging. if they're doing this now, I'm sure they've done shady things before. bring it ALL to light. give that man his damn dog back 🤬

I would so get involved. Call the local news and put them on blast. That dog is probably terrified not being with its owner. So sad. Keep us posted!

The owner should be supported getting his dog back. I think your next step is a 1:1 call with the exec director of the other shelter. If that doesn’t resolve the situation, I think you publicize via a go fund me to pay the reclaim fees. It’s kinda passive aggressive & plenty of folks will say he doesn’t deserve his dog but it raises awareness and the conversation of how being in a shelter for 2 months hurts the dog & the other dogs who couldn’t get help.

This is all about the employee wanting to adopt the dog. If it was a less desirable dog it would be a non issue. If he can gather the money to reclaim the dog they should have to give him back the dog. I doubt there is any policy about residency etc. I would contact the news.

I would feel helpless too. I’m not sure what you can actually do, but I hope you’re able to do something. If you wanna be really sneaky, you could have someone else go in and adopt the dog just to give it back to him. But you also said they haven’t made the dog available for adoption? I agree with you that he should have his dog. They could waive the fees for sure. 💔

You speak up! If I was local, I would offer said man my address to use as his proof. I'd mail a letter to him to my house. poop. proof. there are so many rescues and shelters that are overloaded with animals. let the man have his dog. he was clearly taking care not it if they haven't requested vet records. Come on. Expose them so other people know. a local 'rescue' was taking donations for vet care but never accepted a pet. fosters were told they didn't have any dogs. it was a front to get cash. this isnt the same but it has become easy to overcharge people in a time of distress. cashing in on misfortunes. Please, be the good human you are and disclose this agency. You already have a reputation for doing good. Use it. Grow it. I have your back all the way from AZ. Flood repair update?

PUBLICIZE, PUBLICIZE IN ALL WAYS POSSIBLE.. I'd gather a group of people and picket in front of that shelter... I believe that's legal and make sure it's on live.. They r so wrong for doing this bc as the man may be homeless I can almost guarantee that the one thing he does is finds a way to make sure he's fed and warm! Is there anything u can do to help him get his i.d and help him register that dog as an emotional support dog.. That could maybe make it so they have to give him back . I'm sorry I know nothing about the regulations and thinga u know I'm probably throwing out some dumb ideas.. I will pray for him🙏 Thank you for all that u do 🤗

The gentleman should call police. Dogs are seen as “property” in eyes of law. But if he cannot pay “fees” then he is out the dog, sadly like a car that has been impounded. Is it crappy of the shelter? Absolutely. There are pantries to help homeless feed and care for their their dogs. I think your organization has one.
