People also forget defense lawyers work to ensure that even if their client DOES get convicted, that their sentence is proportionate. Okay, so the guy stole a car. Doesn’t mean he should get a life sentence, etc etc

Guilty people deserve human rights. Even if they are guilty they deserve a FAIR trial with an appropriate consequence. People believe this less and less. They think death is an appropriate punishment for resisting arrest and that being undocumented warrants torture.

It’s ridiculously hard to make people understand that criminals and people accused of crimes should have rights. Yeah even if the crimes are horrific. Even if they reoffend.
