Jun 13, 2026 On the morning of June 13, 2026, 21 year old Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas died during a rope jump activity at the Trilha da Ponte do Esqueleto in Limeira, São Paulo state, Brazil. Witness statements given to the Military Police allege that employees of the organizing companies failed to attach the safety rope before the jump. The activity took place from a platform approximately 40 meters above the ground. Video from the scene reportedly shows workers guiding the woman onto the platform and pushing her forward while the safety rope remains visible on the ground, unattached. Moments after the fall, bystanders can be heard shouting that the rope was not connected. Emergency services from the Fire Department and SAMU responded quickly, but she was declared dead at the scene. Earlier that morning, Maria Eduarda, from Jandira, had posted on Instagram showing the location, activity wristbands, and excitement for the jump, which cost R$180. After the incident, two men fled into nearby vegetation but were later located with support from the Águia police helicopter. In total, six people connected to the event were detained. The case is being investigated by the 2nd Police District in Limeira, with Civil Police examining responsibilities and procedures. The companies involved were identified as Entre Cordas and Ih Voei. Authorities have stated that oversight and maintenance responsibilities for the Ponte do Esqueleto site are under scrutiny, and legal action may follow.
