@namastebernedoodles: Where does Merle come from in Bernedoodles? Merle is not a naturally occurring pattern in either Poodles or Bernese Mountain Dogs. However, it appears in Bernedoodles due to intentional outcrossing many generations ago, likely involving a Merle-carrying breed such as the Australian Shepherd. Over time, the Merle gene was retained while the dogs returned to being genetically consistent with Poodles. Since dog breeds and their “natural” colors are defined by human choices, the presence of Merle doesn’t make a Bernedoodle any less authentic. It simply reflects the complexity of the breed’s development. Merle Bernedoodles are fully Bernedoodle, just with a rare and beautiful coat variation. No two are ever exactly alike. . . . #MerleBernedoodle #BernedoodleLove #RareBernedoodle #MerlePoodle #BernedoodleFacts #UniqueDoodle #BlueEyedPup
