@stux1000: Mango’s cage has a live substrate growing. I don’t care for the news paper look and the method I’m doing eliminates the need to clean the cage all the time. The bird poops help the plants grow. No mess or odors and to me it makes a better environment for the bird. This setup won’t last long term as there’s no clean up crew for the constant waste from your conure. The moisture in the soil will encourage mold growth as well which can cause aspergillosis. It is a very fun idea but at this small scale and concentrated volume of waste it isn’t feasible :(

mango might not last longer if that’s his diet so the set up doesn’t really matter 😭

I’ve fed my cockatiel bread/biscuit w.e once in a while and he lasted until he was 24 year old. RIP baby. It’s def cool and your baby will be fine, too. The bird community is hella toxic lol

Isopods were added when I first set this up and the clover was alive, same type we used in our gecko terrarium. When I replant the clover I will need to add more though. The goal is for a full circle “system”.

his stomach is about the size of a penny. a treat or snack sound be the size of a pen tip. the rest should be pellets for their micro and macro nutrients

Unfortunately no, the bacteria and mould that grows from the moisture in the soil will eventually make the parrot sick. I agree with you newspaper isn’t the only way to go but this is a nightmare for his immune system. You could go with coconut fibre or pine wood chips but again, if moisture is introduced into the scenario you’re dealing with the same problem

I asked ai 🤖 and got the answer not recommended to plant directly in the cage but instead grow the grass inside planters similar to how wheat grass is sold then change the grass out every week or 2.

Love the idea, I’d add isopods like dwarf whites and springtails to help with bio load
