I accidentally capitalized a letter in a variable last week. It took half an hour to find it.

Why aren’t you using AI to proofread & debug in the 1st place? Are you a junior / entry level?

In college my professor told me to be a successful coder, you have to be willing to spend 3 hours hunting a bug only to discover it was a missing ';'. He was only partly right though. That's crucial to survive the first 5 years of your career, but 20 years in I can spot those sorts of syntax errors in a few seconds, consistently. Nowadays my problems are usually algorithm or edge case issues.

This is one of the reasons I don’t like programming in a weakly typed language. You can use a variable which never existed until the line where you check if it's equal to something, and the code is technically valid so no errors from referencing a non existent variable.

Yes. But also, you should be building habits to avoid doing those things in the future.

This is why using IDEs/compilers/linters/etc save so much time. They will catch misspellings and other formatting issues and underline them. It is generally unwise to write any code or markup in a text editor that is not designed for writing in that language.

Back when I was a baby robot programmer I had a mishap that crashed a robot and as I was scurrying through my code to figure out what happened an old wise coworker walks up and says "well it did exactly what you told it to even if it wasn't your intention" I'll never forget that!
