Greater Manchester, England — Headteacher Michael Mullins, 56, was k¡lled after a car struck him as he cycled home from his school on April 20, 2026. Simon Richardson, 35, failed to give way at a stop sign. Prosecutors said he drove about 1.3 miles with Mullins trapped beneath his vehicle, stopping twice in an attempt to free him before driving on. Mullins was later found on a grass verge but could not be saved. Richardson was arrested the next day after trying to change vehicles. He denied m¥rder but was convicted on October 30 after a two-week trial. On November 2, he received life imprisonment with a minimum term of 25 years and a lifetime driving ban. Mullins’ wife called him a “devoted family man” who “loved his friends” and “lived and breathed his vocation as a teacher.” She said: “I try to focus on ensuring that Michael is remembered with the dignity and affection he would have wanted,” His son said his father made “the world a better place,” adding: “There are no words that can express the devastation caused and the emptiness that will remain in our lives without him.” His daughter called him the “hardest working person I think I have ever or will ever know.” She said: “All of what should be the happiest moments in my life will have a cloud somewhere knowing that he should have been there,” Acting principal Liz Baxter said Mullins’ impact was “truly immeasurable.” She added: “His loss has been unbearable for every single one of us at school, and it is only because of the community he created and the strength that he gave us that we will continue in his name and carry out his wishes and his legacy,” Detective Chief Inspector Louise Edwards said former students contacted police to say how “thankful” they were for justice. She said: “Richardson is now set to face many years behind bars; however, he will have to live with the consequences of his actions for the rest of his life,” She added: “The decisions he made tore a loving grandfather, husband, dad, friend and colleague away from this world.” #England #MichaelMullins #SimonRichardson #japd
