A federal court seems to have issued the order to redistrict the State from complaints from residents in those 5 districts. If the State legislature fails the following can happen. Several additional points: • If a legislative redistricting plan is adopted but then vetoed and cannot be overridden, or if it is overturned by a judicial decision within the LRB’s 90-day window, the LRB gains authority to draw new plans. • If both the Legislature and the LRB fail to adopt or implement a legal plan, courts (state or federal) will intervene to ensure redistricting is completed so elections can proceed.
