It’s ridiculous. I served in 2014 and had to pay $500 for my bike in New Zealand and didn’t get to keep it either.

But nobody’s forcing those kids to go out, they’re CHOOSING to sacrifice everything including money to serve the Lord around the world. What’s so wrong with that?

The lds church is estimated to have 293 million dollars in financial holdings. They could fund all Missions for less than a billion dollars each year. I genuinely don’t understand why members are continuing to hand over 10% of their money to the church.

They don't pay for anything. You buy your own suit, your own bike, your own safety equipment, some personal study material, and your own luggage. Then you pay $500 to have some of that given back as a stipend to spend on food, hygiene and medicine. Keep in mind that you are REQUIRED to maintain a certain standard of hygiene at all times, but they won't pay for it.

We spent $1000 on a bike. Shipped it to the mission. It was stored the entire 2 years - never even opened. My son never saw it. We then had to pay to ship it home!!!

That’s what makes a mission a mission. Meaningful, your own faith, desire, dedication etc If the church paid for it all it wouldn’t mean much.

Well, when you are supposed to start saving for a mission as soon as you know how to walk, you can afford things like that. This is what we as LDS kids are taught- 10% of any income you have goes to tithes for the church, 10% for your mission fund.

Oh what is even better is if you are in an area where you get a car it is paid for. 20 years ago when I served you had to fill out a log book and you could only go a set amount of miles every 6 weeks and if you were low on miles you just walked or bummed rides from members. Now they have electronic tattlers that the mission can monitor in real time. The mission experience is a brain washing system designed to mold and shape developing young minds in ways that help them to not think for them selves or question the things that don't make sense. Sorry for the long comment I could go on for hours about this.

i think a lot about that kid who was going to (i think) ghana and packed a bunch of peanut butter so he “wouldn’t starve” and everyone was like that’s racist!!! ok yeah but this child genuinely believes he could starve and no one is even mentioning how it’s insane the church won’t ensure he’s fed??!?!!!!?!

In my mission we had a ‘bike fund’ and if you never used a bike you got it back at the end-bike deposit. Then at the end of my mission they said-nah, other people rode bikes.

I used a bike my whole mission, and we didn’t had to pay for repairs with our own personal money, we received a reimbursement with mission money, idk what are you talking about. The bikes were owned by our mission, since we never owned or paid to have our own bike, the bike was left in our area whenever there were changes

I suggest you get the name of the church, correct? It’s the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints. Mormon was an ancient prophet who helped a bridge and combine sacred writings of Jesus Christ and his followers who, for the most part came from Jerusalem and lived in America for 1000s of years.
