@dollarmoovies: Have you ever wondered what that .XML file is? It essentially is a bunch of metadata. And if you are anything like me, you like to keep your folders as organized as possible. So you may be wondering? Can I delete these .XML files or .LRF files on my cameras? And the answer would be: it depends. I have seen a bunch of different arguments for both sides of this question. I have come to the conclusion that if you are just working on personal projects and low stakes videos, it shouldn’t be an issue to delete it. Definitely hold onto those XMLs if you are working with others on a post team. It’s cross-platform compatible for post software and if you are transferring projects to other departments then it’s common to share the XML with the OMF and project file. The XML file can also be helpful if your project becomes corrupt it’s one of the only ways to conserve the metadata and save that version of the project. Hopefully with diligent auto/manual saving you won’t ever need it though!

I’ve been transcoding footage to MXFs for years and I always delete the XMLs that come with it

Right click on the .lrf and open it in VLC. It can be used for all sorts of metadata burned in and I think it’s also basically a proxy but I’ve never tried to open it in an editor.
