@jess_happy_smallholding: This is how we made our pond, and how we clean it. This is one of my most requested videos - hope you enjoy 🤗💚 Here are a couple of tips for making the pond: 🦆 Use a strong liner to prevent it from ripping. We have to go into it when cleaning and the strong liner makes this easier without worrying about ripping it. 🦆 Have different levels to improve the pond for the ducks & wildlife and to make it easier for you to clean. 🦆 Include a sump to make pumping out the dirty water easier. 🦆 Protect young plants with chicken wire: ducks love to have a nibble! Here’s a couple of tips for cleaning: 💦 We clean the pond about once a month in the summer, and less often in the winter. 💦 We use a dirty water pump to pump out the water 💦 Add a bit of clean water as the pond empties to help flush the dirty water through the pump. 💦 You can use the dirty water to water the garden - it’s nutrient rich from all the duck manure! #selfsufficient #gyo #growyourown #growyourownfood #ducks #homestead #smallholding #garden #lovegardening #kitchengarden #veggarden #plants #igrewthis #ediblegarden #gardendesign #spreadsheets

I have a man made pond in my backyard but it's so large I don't think I could clean it once a month it would be a huge expense. I wonder if there's a filter that could be used?

Why aren’t you aiming for a pond that can self regulate through heavy feeding plants and bacteria? I appreciate it would maybe take 6 months- a year to self regulate but surely that’s a better long-term solution?

We’ve created a pond, we haven’t got our ducks yet. We have left it as a clay base and hoping water may hold (which is why we haven’t got the ducks yet as we are waiting to see if it works!) I couldn’t believe the costing of a pond liner, can you recommend anywhere to get one if needed and rough costs? The seemed to be £500+😳

So helpful thank you! I’ve just got ducklings yesterday and building their coop now. How often do you do a deep clean of that pond? Thanks!🥰

The pump that sucks the dirty water out is a regular pump on reverse? Sorry I did not understand this part 🤔

Is it easier or harder to have like a filter or pump so that the water is moving? I was thinking about digging one for my ducks🥰
