Silent Hill leans in on being almost claustrophobic with it's narrow hallways and being isolated where as Resident Evil (depends on which game) is more-or-less an semi-open field

I CANNOT wait for the remake of the first Silent Hill. I know a lot of peoples favorite is SH2 or 3, but I have a very special place in my heart for SH1 and I hope the remake does it as much justice as SH2’s did. Great job explaining what makes each series unique as well!!!

The resident evil "insane feats" only started happening after RE4 was a thing. The first 3 were pretty grounded in the beginning.

Reason people compare them is because in the 90s we had never seen anything like resident evil. Then RE becomes successful and you have another game in the same vein, silent hill. But still two very different games.

As someone who's a fan of both franchises I've always said Resident Evil is not horror it's just not scary at all it's more goofy over the top action then horror and playing Silent Hill drives that point home clearly. Silent Hill is absolutely terrifying now that's survival horror. While I love Resident Evil I've always thought the newer fairweather fans that complain how the games are scary anymore and need to get back to their horror roots had absolutely no clue what they were talking about Resident Evil has never been very scary and was always much more action oriented especially in comparison to Silent Hill so Resident Evils natural progression into an even more action focused game makes perfect sense where as Silent Hill has always been solely focused on horror and interesting puzzles with the combat being an integral yet minimal part of the experience. The horror comes from the combat in having to face some grotesque looking thing and be severely outmatched and just barely scraping by where as with Resident Evil you are always readily equipped for the challenge at hand and usually can find some heavy firepower that makes you more then a match for any of the BOWs you encounter. I very much appreciate both series for what they do differently.
