During descent into weather associated with a cold front, turbulence likely caused inadvertent activation of the go-around mode when the first officer bumped the switch. The jet accelerated, triggering a pitch-up somatogravic illusion, where acceleration feels like a nose-up attitude. Mistakenly believing the aircraft was about to stall, the first officer pushed forward on the control, initiating a steep, unrecoverable dive. This chain of events lasted only about 32 seconds from switch activation to impact.
