My husband does not come from that kind of family and I do and I get sooo frustrated when I say “we should do it this way!” And he just goes “okay” 🙂 and I’m like “no! Rebuttal! Do you think of it a different way? Is there a better way to do it? What are the pros and cons??”

I hate labelling it an argument… at most it’s a debate… if that

Honestly : People who contradict you constantly to see the other side of things can be exhausting to be around !

I've had this convo/argument with a couple partners.. it seems like people who didnt grow up with rec.arg families feel extremely judged when you ask them about their thoughts or decisions. "Why" is the worst word and speaking passionately is always somehow "mean" or yelling. THINK DEEPER🥲

I feel "recreational debate" is closer to what I enjoy regularly with my partner. We love it. We'll even play devil's advocate for the sake of debate. BUT, I've learned taking that energy into other relationships in my life, like with siblings , actually cost me dearly and I feel bad about it.

I understand now what was my problem. I was always trying to have these conversations with my family, with my friends and they would say “why am trying to argue?”🥺
