@casabolanos: The double standards 🙄 One gets praised, the other gets questioned. But both mean you left your country to live in another one. “Expat” softens the reality of migration. It ignores the power and privilege behind the move and makes it desirable, a luxury even. While Americans villainize immigrants (who pay BILLIONS in taxes), they’re out there in Costa Rica, Colombia, DR, Thailand, etc enjoying our lands, our foods, but I can’t even say our cultures because most won’t assimilate. The expat loves moving for a better quality of life, but why then, are immigrants criticized for the same thing? Unless you’re moving to a country where you have dual citizenship, you’re an immigrant in a new land. Stop romanticizing the word expat and criticizing the immigrant I’m a first-gen, immigrant, Arab Latina and proud ✊ 🇨🇺 🇹🇳 What do you think? an expat is generally someone who moved to a country for a limited time period instead of permanently, usually this move was initiated by their employer. all expats are immigrants but not all immigrants are expats.

No they are different. Expat is living for an amount of time, not moving permanently
