What frustrates me the most about leadership, when your calendar is blocked out to allocate work that needs to be done and alongside meetings. They not only think you are not efficient but also not accommodating them for meetings. My case is that if I do not time block, then I don’t have availability to do various work streams and then they wonder I am so exhausted from a lack of work / life balance. Easy for people who only delegate work and not the doers to say this about a high performer.

sounds like a combination of issues but a good manager/leader should already know the whole schedule and not have to ask why the calendar is blocked off.

So if you are one of 4 people I need in a meeting and everyone else is free tomorrow at 2:00 except you, now I have to phone you to see if you are in another meeting or “time blocking”. Yeah - that sounds super efficient.

This is the attitude that keeps you from getting promoted and staying in middle management forever. God forbid you do more then asked to stand out and show more value then others. This is the same attitude as Cs get degrees. In the work world this attitude gets your NO WHERE and you will be on the chopping block. Work life balance is needed but also doing more then whats expected of you is needed.

I do not have time to go back and forth asking 4 people if their "full" calendar is in fact full or if they each can tell me which bits could be unblocked to free up for a meeting. Fine, put in some focus times but make sure they're is fine for questions or adhoc meeting.
