@edwardcollins_upleveled: Thinking About a Family Foundation? Start With Purpose — Not Just Taxes. Before we get into strategy, drop your favorite charity in the comments. Because that’s where this conversation should begin. Yes, a Family Foundation can deliver serious tax benefits. But if your main goal is tax savings, you’re already missing the point. 🎯 True purpose: Philanthropy. The tax deduction? Just a bonus. Here’s what you need to know: 📌 Who can set one up? Pretty much anyone with the right resources and guidance. 📌 What rules apply? Strict ones — and the IRS enforces them. 🚫 No personal benefit. 🚫 No self-dealing. 🚫 No using foundation funds for family gain. “Disqualified persons” include: 1️⃣ You. 2️⃣ Your spouse. 3️⃣ Your kids. 4️⃣ Certain relatives and entities you control. ✅ Can family members work in the foundation? Yes — but only if: • They perform legitimate, necessary services. • They’re paid a fair market wage. • Compensation is properly documented. A Family Foundation can be one of the most powerful tools for charitable impact and legacy — but only when it’s built and operated correctly. Lead with giving. Let the tax benefits follow. favorite charity....don't have one...but being asked when ordering taco bell..."do we want to donate to the taco bell college fund" is just irritating cause we all know they use it to cheat taxes since they don't have to declare separate transactions if they are under 500$ so it only benefits the organization

Or never sell the stocks and use security backed lines of credit to take profits and you’ll still be able to pass those investments to future generations

Thank you for clarifying this to everyone. I looked into setting up a foundation to see what kind of benefits like this would be possible. I learned everybody's full of crap. I keep telling people all these allegations are false because an NPO doesn't allow you or your family to profit or financially benefit from them. it's not really a tax or wealth loophole like they keep saying. Sure, they can get a tax break from donating to charity, but so can you, but the fact is that they still had to give away more money than they save, so they didn't actually profit off of it. it's crazy how much everybody keeps saying this is some rich people loophole. It's not. Neither they nor their family can profit from the NPO. IRS is very strict on this. They are just maintaining control over the charity to ensure it carries out the mission the established. That money they put into it is gone, not theirs anymore.

Favorite is a veteran ran non-profit called Black Dog Hunting. They give a lot to vets and take them on once in a lifetime trips to get to know other vets and find members of the vet community.
