4–20 mA Pressure Control Loop Wiring Diagram This diagram shows a complete industrial pressure control loop, where a pressure transmitter measures process pressure and a pneumatic control valve automatically regulates it through a PID controller. How It Works 🔹 1. Pressure Transmitter (4–20 mA) Measures the process pressure. Converts the pressure into a 4–20 mA analog signal. 4 mA = Minimum pressure 20 mA = Maximum pressure 🔹 2. PID Controller / Control System Receives the 4–20 mA signal from the transmitter. Compares the measured pressure (PV) with the desired setpoint (SP). Calculates the required output using PID control. Sends a 4–20 mA output signal to the I/P converter. 🔹 3. I/P Converter (Current to Pressure) Converts the electrical 4–20 mA signal into a pneumatic 3–15 PSI air signal. This air pressure is used to operate the control valve actuator. 🔹 4. Pneumatic Control Valve Receives the 3–15 PSI signal from the I/P converter. Opens or closes proportionally to control the process pressure. Ensures the process remains at the desired setpoint. 🔹 5. 24 VDC Power Supply Supplies power to the pressure transmitter and PID controller. Converts 230 VAC to 24 VDC for field instrumentation. Signal Flow Process Pressure → Pressure Transmitter (4–20 mA) → PID Controller → I/P Converter (4–20 mA to 3–15 PSI) → Pneumatic Control Valve This control loop is widely used in oil & gas, chemical plants, power plants, water treatment systems, and industrial automation for accurate and reliable pressure control. #IndustrialAutomation #PLC #PressureTransmitter #PIDController #ControlValve
