Which loan company? Is it federal? If so, as long as you pay minimum on all the loans you can put money towards principal every month

No you can absolutely pay towards principal. Pay your regular payment first and then call in or go online to make a principal only payment. They may not make it obvious but you can absolutely do it

Cap loan interest at 3% or lower and cap tuition costs. Then get rid of all the fluffy classes or extra bs in all classes/majors. Allow for more generals in high school. All these things would dramatically shift the entire problem.

If you make two payments instead of just the one monthly payment you can pay more towards the principal instead of interest.

Research that a bit more.. you need to catch up on the interest that has been accruing, (for example unsubsidized loans were accruing during while in school) once you catch up.. then you can add money above your monthly payment and it will go directly to the principle. (Not sure if that works with any income driven payments.. you payment may not even cover the interest?? I didn't research that)

I tried calling them and requesting payments only be put towards the principle and they said they couldn’t 🥲 I just pay the monthly minimum towards all of my loans and then make extra payments towards one loan! The first couple payments stink but once you get the interest down then more starts to go towards the principle of that makes sense? 🙂

If you have groups of loans, you can pay off the entire group including interest and principal rather than having a little go toward each group’s interest. That way you can target the loans with the highest interest rates first.
