Mkost :
Emotional intelligence is about NOT empathizing with toxic people. Trauma is not an excuse for bad behavior.

I don't agree with you on this. Let's stop making excuses for these type of people already. Not everyone had an awesome childhood, yet they didn't turn out ba.d or go about hurting people. I would like to say it's a choice.

Some people are empaths despite having a difficult childhood wound they still choose to care and never hate anyone, while some are psychopaths, some become narcissistic. They find pleasure in hurting others , they are broken , wounded , traumatized and they project their fear onto others. Emotional intelligence is developed through self discovery, self awareness, study of other people's behaviour , you have your own self discipline and previous experiences, this will prepare your mind to understand why others behave in a certain way

Exactly. I always see a wounded child. But also I don't tolerate abusive behavior towards me. :)

This great advice and absolutely 💯, but we can’t get to our 30’s or even 40’s and use being a wounded child as an excuse for our behaviour. We have to understand our triggers earlier and do the necessary work. It’s boring seeing someone make the same mistakes and use the same excuses as a full grown adult..

Mookie2025 :
Emotional intelligence (EQ) is the ability to understand, use, and manage your own emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome challenges, and defuse conflict. It encompasses the capacity to perceive, understand, and manage emotions in oneself and others.

IamDrGrant :
When you’re emotionally intelligent, you see beyond the pain—hurt people hurt people, but their wounds aren’t your burden to carry. Compassion doesn’t mean carrying their pain; it means knowing when to protect your own heart.
