I want to share my experience. I tested positive for HSV-2 on Saturday. I received a phone call from the lab who told me over the phone my diagnosis. But I had heavy suspicions the week prior already. I met this guy 3-4 weeks before getting sick. I had a fever, chills, aches and it was not normal down there. And The gynecologist prescribed me with herpes medication straight away, even before we got the results back. It started getting better pretty fast (luckily, I think my first outbreak was not that bad), so obviously, my suspicions it was hsv kept getting stronger. When it was confirmed to me, I wanted to cry. I thought my life was over. I guess, the world as I knew it was over. Before meeting this guy, I was closer to becoming a nun than anything else… so it really felt unfair. After over 2 years of getting over my ex and not dating much, I finally met a man I had a genuine connection with but then, boom. He gives me a virus. After I got the diagnosis, I obviously told him straight away and asked him a few questions. I was worried sick I was maybe the infected one from the beginning and could have gotten him sick too. Then I learn he knew he had HSV (1&2 probably) since he’s young 😨 Like what the actual f… He genuinely thought he was not contagious if he didn’t have an active outbreak or didn’t have any for a long time. Apparently, his doctor told him back then (when he was young), that he should be fine if there are no signs of outbreaks. His brother and his mother have it too. She gave it to them when they were very young. Needless to say I was very angry and completely dumfounded. How did I, who just recently learned more about HSV, know more about this virus than him who’s lived with it all his life?! I was not that surprised about it though after my 2nd visit to the doctor as she barely even say anything about it 😨 I am the one who had to push to talk about it. So I guess, if most doctors tell you you have hsv and just send you home like that without explaining you more about it, it’s not a surprise that it keeps spreading so easily. Anyways, I guess my luck in all of this is that he wanted a serious relationship with me from the beginning.
