Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia - A One-Year Story Ricky HSP began his APEX NEURO journey using a crutch, and was able to run across the clinic under a year later 🎉 In July 2025, Ricky told Luke his goals after seeing first-hand the impact HSP can have on someone (his Dad lived with the condition). He wanted to stand and watch his kids play football, walk his daughter down the aisle, and not let decline be “his story.” The journey would require hard work, but we could see that Ricky was ready to give it everything it needed. Using a specific type of electrical stimulation, Luke works through spasticity and strengthens Ricky’s connection and control to the muscle. Some muscles took more time and work, but some, like his glutes, were began improving quickly - seeing change within just 5 minutes! The first major goal was helping Ricky walk independently. Ricky, like many of our clients, was reliant on a walking aid, which over time can impact the way you walk including contributing to imbalances and weakness. With improved control in his muscles, and taking Luke’s coaching on board, Ricky was walking laps of the clinic by the end of the July intensive. After a setback that impacted his progress at home, Luke quickly got Ricky back to this point in September 2025, and they were able to begin start applying their work to the real world. This is one of our key philosophies at APEX NEURO - that what we do at the clinic should help you when you’re not at the clinic. By practicing walking outside together, Luke was able to coach Ricky through the many distractions of walking and can keep an eye on his technique as fatigue kicks in, so that when Ricky walks at home he’s already more prepared for this. January 2026 meant Luke could start to look at more specific areas of weakness and more complex goals, such as finessing using the stairs, showing Ricky how he can train and build muscle at home, and helping him maintain balance as he walks while carrying something (particularly applicable in carrying the weekly food shop). In his last visit to us in May 2026, the progress as he arrives in the clinic from when he was with us in July 2025 is already evident - but Luke’s not going to stop there. Luke wants Ricky to work on his posture and core - standing taller and walking with better posture, which will help Ricky long-term. They’re finally able to start the biggest challenge and the thing many of our clients thought they wouldn’t get to do again: running. Make no mistake, this is hard work. But the results and smile speak for themselves! Ricky has diligently worked via the Remote Support Programme back home in Ireland between his intensives. Everyone’s journey is different, but Ricky’s is one we’re especially proud of, thanks to both Luke and Ricky’s hard work. South Korea just put its air defenses to the test against one of the fastest-growing threats on the battlefield: drone warfare. During its first-ever live-fire exercise simulating a coordinated swarm attack, 50 drones flew in low from about a half mile away. Air defense crews shot down 44 with Vulcan guns, while a portable laser and shotguns took out the remaining six. The drill comes as militaries around the world race to adapt to the growing use of coordinated drone attacks in modern warfare.
