Retired #deputy charged with #childsexcrimes resigns from Anderson Co. school board Officials said he was taken to the Anderson County Detention Center and was given a $100,000 surety bond. By Anisa Snipes Published: Aug. 7, 2025 at 11:51 AM EDT|Updated: Aug. 7, 2025 at 8:03 PM EDT ANDERSON, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Anderson School District One said a school board member has resigned after being charged with child sex crimes. The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said 48-year-old #GreggHayden was charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor, third-degree and attempted criminal sexual conduct with a minor, second degree after an interaction that took place on July 30. Gregg Hayden Gregg Hayden(Anderson County Sheriff's Office) According to officials, Hayden picked up a child to play basketball when nearby drivers witnessed signs of sexual abuse happening in his truck. He is not related to the child but knew them through a church mentorship program. Deputies said Hayden was an Anderson One school board member and retired Anderson County deputy. FOX Carolina reached out to the school district for a statement. “Protecting children is paramount to all ACSO deputies and detectives did not hesitate to uncover evidence and facts surrounding this case,” the sheriff’s office said. “It matters none what position you have held in the past or what position you currently hold, if you abuse a child we are going to do everything in our power to seek justice for any child victim.” The school district said on Thursday that Hayden had resigned effective immediately from the school board. This case remains an active investigation. Officials said Hayden was taken to the Anderson County Detention Center and was given a $100,000 surety bond on the condition of wearing a electronic monitoring GPS and having no contact with the victim on Thursday.
